The Wave’s Kristoffer Joner boards Norwegian premium series Kieler Street
The drama/thriller repped internationally by ITV Studios, just started filming on January 15 for Anagram Norway and TV2.
Genre director specialist Patrik Syversen (Manhunt, Hellfjord, Dragonheart: Battle for the Heartfire) has co-created and written the character-driven series, with experienced comedy writers/actors Jesper Sundnes and Stig Frode Henriksen (Dead Snow 2). In the 10x43’ series Kieler Street (Kieler gata), Kristoffer Joner plays Jonas, a former criminal who has assumed a new identity and lives in Scandinavia’s least criminal town, but the façade starts falling apart when he realises that several other inhabitants have hidden identities.
The stellar Scandinavian cast also includes Int’l Emmy-award winning Anneke von der Lippe (Eyewitness), Nicolai Cleve Broch (Acquitted), Johan Rheborg (Solsidan) Andrea Bræin (All the Beauty) and Janne Heltberg (Occupied).
Christopher Haug, Head of Drama at TV2 said: “This is a character-driven drama with thriller elements and humour. The series is created by relatively young and extremely talented creators; it’s very fresh and like nothing you’ve ever read or seen before.” Syversen said: “Thematically our goal is to deconstruct the common person and their facades, all told through a handful of dysfunctional characters who strive to lead a normal life, and who are willing to go far to protect the illusion they’ve created for themselves.”
Kieler Street is produced by Anagram Norway’s Anne Kobjørnsen (exec producer of Lilyhammer) and Ole Marius Araldsen, showrunner of Eyewitness and Maniac. The series has been pre-sold to several foreign territories, not disclosed at press time.

Geir Henning Hopland (Lilyhammer) and Rune Denstad Lango (North) are on board to direct the skein, which looks to be one of the most compelling Nordic crimers to go into production this year. After many years of interesting crime series coming out of Scandinavia, Acquitted is a strong character driven drama like The Legacy and Borgen, that expands the creativity and storytelling in Nordic TV series that not only fascinates but also gives huge emotional impact, said Jonas Allen, Miso Film producer. Christopher Haug, commissioning editor for TV 2 Norway, said, Acquitted had a strong fundamental conflict that generate distinct characters and progress. The viewer will be captured by the unsolved murder case, powerful characters and when you add the spectacular landscape and the story about an isolated and threatened community you have both identification and fascination.
