As soon as Saahil got the offer, he rushed to the video store and watched Cape Fear. “Late at night, I called Adi and I said that I’m doing the film. He sent Naresh the next day and he narrated the film, and I immediately said yes,” he recalled. Since Lamhe was on the verge of release, they decided that the paperwork will only be done after the film releases. But, Lamhe flopped at the box office and that affected Saahil’s fate as well.

Unhone kaha ‘main khud dara hua hun, main kya daar banaunga? (I asked ‘Uncle, my film? He said ‘Which film?’. I said ‘Darr’. He said ‘I am scared, how will I make Darr?’).”

When Saahil met Aditya, he learnt that Yash Chopra had taken over the film and he was now going to direct it. They had already made plans to cast Shah Rukh Khan in the film as he was becoming a star. “Deewana had already released by then, and they were hearing good things about Baazigar as well,” he recalled.

Darr turned out to be a game changer for Shah Rukh Khan and along with Baazigar, the film made him the next big star of Bollywood.

  • Sahil Chadha's tribute to filmmaker Ravindra Peepat: He was a guru to me - Exclusive

Filmmaker Ravindra Peepat, a talented writer and director, breathed his last on a Saturday, October 14, succumbing to a heart attack. Peepat had been battling ill health for some time. His passing has left a void among his peers and friends in the film industry. This loss is keenly felt by his family and friends, including celebrated actor-producer Sahil Chadha, who shared a special bond with the departed filmmaker, having worked together in the film 'Laal Dupatta Malmal Ka'.
Ravindra Peepat was not only a gifted director but also a gifted writer. Among the notable films that bear the Peepat stamp is 'Waaris', a gripping drama featuring stellar performances by Smita Patil, Amrita Singh, and Raj Babbar. He also directed 'Lava', a film that brought Dimple Kapadia, Raj Babbar, and Asha Parekh together, and was equally lauded for his work on movies like 'Aao Pyaar Karen', 'Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi', and 'Kaash Aap Hamare Hote', among others.
But Peepat's talents extended beyond the director's chair. He demonstrated his knack for screenwriting in films like 'Beewi O Beewi,' featuring Randhir Kapoor and Poonam Dhillon. Not limiting himself to Hindi cinema, he ventured into Punjabi cinema, creating a significant impact with 'Punjab Bolda.' In 2012, he directed the Punjabi film 'Pata Nahi Rabb Kehdeyan Rangan Ch Raazi,' starring Neeru Bajwa, further showcasing his versatility in storytelling.
Sahil Chadha, who has had a career on the silver screen as both an actor and producer, fondly reminisces about his association with Ravindra Peepat. The duo joined forces for 'Laal Dupatta Malmal Ka', and their professional relationship evolved into a deep and affectionate bond. In Sahil's words, "He was a Guru to me. He was a guide who made such a beautiful film 'Laal Dup

Saahil Chadha to star in cross-over film, Utopia

    Saahil Chadha

Actor Saahil Chadha, who is currently seen playing the role of King Nomad in The Adventures of Hatim on Life OK, recently finished shooting an upcoming cross-over film titled Utopia. It was helmed by Iranian director Haasan Nazer who has worked on several short festival films like Black Day, Here Iran, among others.
Utopia is a docu-drama, which is the story of three people who are living in different parts of the world, that includes Afghanistan, Scotland and India. As the title suggests, people in this film are trying to find their perfect world. My character Rajnysh is a sweet but integral part of the story’s flow. Since childhood, he had considered a man who lived in his neighbourhood and who later becomes his father-in-law, as a role model. The story revolves around the family’s struggle for living in the world of their dreams,” stated Chadha, who added that he has already shot for the film in Jaipur and the crew is currently filming the portions in Afghanistan. Although the film is targetted at a niche audience and will be dominantly screened during film festivals, Chadha mentioned that he is trying to convince the producers, Tripswitch Productions and World Film Production, to ensure that the film gets at least a limited screen release in India.

A posthumous Nobel Prize was considered for Mahatma Gandhi in 1948.
It is widely held – in retrospect – that the Indian national leader should have been the person selected for the Nobel Peace Prize. Gandhi was nominated for the Nobel Prize a few days before he was assassinated #OnThisDay in 1948 - putting him on the Nobel Committee's shortlist for the third time.
Nobody had ever been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize posthumously. But according to the statutes of the Nobel Foundation in force at that time, the Nobel Prizes could, under certain circumstances, be awarded posthumously. Thus it was possible to give Gandhi the prize. However, Gandhi did not belong to an organisation, he left no property behind and no will; who should receive the prize money?
The Nobel Committee adviser concluded: "… Gandhi can only be compared to the founders of religions." That year they decided to make no award on the grounds that "there was no suitable living candidate".

He was nominated five times for the prize (1937, 1938, 1939, 1947, and 1948). The committee had many chances to award it to him, but failed to do so, most likely for political reasons. Anyway, it would have been an honor to the prize, not the man.

In 1948, it was not possible on that plea that he didn't belong any organization. Oh! What a great concept ! And, thereafter for rectification so many personalities have been awarded who never belong any organization.

Gandhi doesn't need the finances that come with the Prize. Conferring on him the mere title itself would recognise his untiring efforts for a peaceful world based on principles of truth and non-violence. He really deserves that!!!
