Little Nicholas (French: Le Petit Nicolas), also known as Petit Nicolas (UK), is a 2009 French familycomedy film directed by Laurent Tirard, who co-wrote with Grégoire Vigneron and Alain Chabat. It is based on a series of children's books by René Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sempé. The film features an ensemble cast led by Maxime Godart in the title role of Nicolas. The film was theatrically released in France on 30 September 2009 by Wild Bunch Distribution, Central Film, and EOne Films.

The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and earned $100.8 million on a €21.4 million budget. It won the French Television of Ontario (TFO) Prize for Best Youth Film at the Cinéfranco in 2010 and also received nominations for the César Award for Best Writing – Adaptation, the European Film Award for People's Choice Award for Best European Film, and the Cinema Brazil Grand Prize for Best Foreign-Language Film. A sequel, Nicholas on Holiday, was released on 9 July 2014.

    Plot

Nicholas' class is instructed by their teacher to write about what they want to be when they grow up. Gluttonous best friend Alceste, rich boy Geoffrey, dimwitted Clotaire, quarrelsome Eudes, eccentric Rufus and spoiled top student Agnan already have plans for the future. However, Nicholas is unsure as he enjoys his life and does not want it to change.

One day, the class is interrupted by the arrival of another student, Joachim, who has a new baby brother and is not pleased about it, as no one prioritizes him anymore. Joachim was not aware of the arrival, but did observe his father's uncharacteriscally affective behavior towards his mother. The next morning, Nicholas sees that his parents are affectionate to each other too, causing him to suspect that they plan to have a baby. He informs his friends about this, who also grow suspicious about Joachim's sudden absence from school.

  • Kad Merad is a French-Algerian filmmaker and actor who has acted both on stage and on screen.

Kad Merad was born in Sidi Bel Abbès, Algeria, on March 27, 1964 to an Algerian father and a French mother.

During his teens, he played drums and sang with various rock bands. Soon afterwards, he started playing as an animator in Club Med alongside the Gigolo Brothers troop.

In 1990, he was hired by Ouï FM, the Paris Rock genre station where he met Olivier Baroux. The duet most known as Kad & Olivier began working together and started their own show, the Rock'n Roll Circus, introducing some of their most famous sketches (Pamela Rose, Teddy Porc Fidèle...). The early success of the show allowed them to meet Jean-Luc Delarue who brought their act to TV.

In 1999, they began appearing on the French Satellite TV channel Comédie+ on their own show, La Grosse Emission. At the same time, Merad started his Cinema career with a lot of secondary roles.

In 2003, he scored his First box-office success with Mais Qui a tué Pamela Rose?, co-written with Baroux.

In 2007, Kad received the César Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Je vais Bien, ne t'en fais pas! and appears in AaRON's film soundtrack video clip. His best challenger was Dany Boon. During the shooting of Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis, this friendly struggle was a running joke between the two of them.

That same year, he made his first appearance with Les Enfoirés music troop and is still one of its members. He was also inducted as the Godfather of the Telethon.

The next year, he starred as Phillipe Abrams in the French movie Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis. The film was a surprise - and phenomenal - success in France and Europe, becoming the best-attended movie ever made in France, with 21 million moviegoers.

Nicholas spends his summer holidays with his Parents and Grandma Mémé at the seaside. He quickly makes new friends, including the boy Blaise, who lives in the area, the English pupil Djodjo, the gourmand Fructueux, the righteous Côme, and the crybaby Crépin. But just when Nicholas believes he has got everything under control, Isabelle appears, the daughter of his parents' friends, Mr and Mrs Bernique. Nicholas consults his friends about the looming threat to his "true love", marrying Marie-Edwige. His friends offer advice and plot to separate Isabelle and Nicholas. They tell him that he must tarnish his family's reputation in front of Isabelle's parents, which happens by circumstance (Granny wanting to go to the casino). Meanwhile, Nicholas' dad is having nightmares of his boss, Mr. Moucheboume, and colleagues laughing at a postcard he sent. He later writes and puts in a mailbox a letter of resignation. However, he later gets a call from Moucheboume, who has big plans for him. This changes Nicolas' dad's mind, and after failing to retrieve the letter from the mailbox, he sets it all on fire.

Nicholas and his friends even contemplate putting vipers on their beds to drive them out of there. After a close encounter with the viper, they connect the water s
