  • What does it mean to be a curatorial killjoy?

In , after a challenging year working as a postdoctoral researcher/co-curator at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, IL, I embraced the moniker “curatorial killjoy.” This term resonated with me because during that time, I witnessed a consistent pattern of the institution seeking collaborations with Native communities that primarily served its own vision of decolonization, rather than genuinely addressing the needs and aspirations of Indigenous Peoples.

As a first generation scholar, my family has endured the devastating impacts of boarding schools and other forms of state sanctioned violence. Navigating the intergenerational trauma associated with these events, I also had to navigate Western educational systems that were not designed to support my lived experiences or existence. Recognizing the privilege I held in my position, I took it upon myself to publicly and internally call out behaviors that hindered meaningful collaboration. I voiced concerns about how white supremacy was being reinforced even in the pursuit of decolonization and advocated for change while highlighting the personal harm I experienced throughout the process. Unfortunately, this work environment took a toll on my mental health, affecting other aspects of my well being.

As I transitioned from graduate school into the professional world, I initially believed my strong voice alone could single-handedly effect monumental change. While I take pride in the advocacy work I undertook during that time, I have since learned the importance of meeting people where they are and approaching issues with less reactivity and more understanding. Although this institution failed to take my needs seriously and never fully acknowledged the challenges I faced, I have since found more receptive and caring working environments where I have been valued and respected.

Through this experience, I gained invaluable insights into curating e

Killjoy is a American fantasyslasher film directed by Craig Ross, starring Ángel Vargas. It follows a young man who's murdered and seeks revenge through a killer demon clown named Killjoy. It is the first entry in the Killjoy franchise.

    Plot

Nerdy high school student Michael asks fellow classmate Jada to go to the homecoming dance with him. Despite Michael's unrequited feelings for her, Jada considers Michael as a friend, and politely rejects him, reminding him that she has a boyfriend, a gangster who has warned Michael off numerous times in the past. Jada's boyfriend Lorenzo arrives to pick the girls up, along with his gangster buddies T-Bone and Baby Boy. They see Michael talking to Jada, and beat Michael up before driving away, all the while a homeless man in a nearby alley watches silently.

That night, Michael brandishes a knife as he uses black magic encircled by candles on a clown doll to bring forth a demon of vengeance known as Killjoy, but seemingly, it does not work. Lorenzo, T-Bone, and Baby Boy abduct Michael outside his house and bring him to a secluded area where they "accidentally" shoot him. They leave his body.

One year later, Lorenzo is at a rundown apartment partying with T-Bone and Baby Boy and leaves to meet Kahara, his new girlfriend. T-Bone and Baby Boy go to get ice cream from an ice cream truck parked outside, where the clown operating the truck claims to sell drugs. Inviting them inside, the clown teleports them to his lair, an abandoned warehouse. Baby Boy is pinned to the wall by the speeding ice cream truck, killing him. T-Bone finds a lit blunt and smokes it, causing him to light and inhale himself, bursting into flames as his body disintegrates. The battered and burned corpses of

~ Killjoy meeting Torque for the first time.

Dr. Q. L. Killjoy, or better known as Dr. Killjoy, is one of the principal characters of the horror video game The Suffering and its sequel The Suffering: Ties That Bind. A legendary figure in Carnate Island's notoriously violent history, Dr. Killjoy made a name for himself in the early 20th century as both a surgeon and a psychiatrist, offering revolutionary treatments for apparently incurable mental illnesses to clients with innumerable psychological maladies. However, the cures he devised often caused irreversible brain damage, loss of basic functions, and all too commonly, death.
